What enterprise service management means

Enterprise Service Management applies service management practices beyond IT. Halo describes support for requests, approvals, workflows, knowledge and reporting across teams such as HR, Facilities and Finance. Explore Halo’s ESM overview.

Stratwyze’s advisory and implementation services can help scope an ESM initiative. Departmental processes, integrations, access and delivery commitments must be agreed; the use cases below are opportunities to assess.

Start with a service journey

Employee onboarding

An illustrative workflow could coordinate HR approval, IT account requests and workplace preparation. Each task needs an owner, required inputs and a completion check.

Facilities requests

An illustrative service could capture a location, issue and urgency, then route the work to the responsible team and keep the requester informed.

Purchase approvals

An illustrative request could record the requirement, obtain approvals and hand work to procurement. Financial-system integration would need separate scoping.

These are planning examples, not Stratwyze case studies or measured customer outcomes.

Build ownership and controls into the design

For each service, name the accountable owner, supporting teams and approvers. Define what users can see, which records are sensitive and where information should remain within a departmental system.

Use RACI where it clarifies responsibility. If the design uses a CMDB, preserve the distinction between Business Services, Technical Services, Business Applications, Business Application Instances and infrastructure Configuration Items. Adopt the detail that supports the agreed processes.

Expand in manageable releases

  1. Choose a pilot. Select a recurring request with clear ownership and a manageable approval path.
  2. Agree the design. Define forms, tasks, access, knowledge, measures and integration dependencies.
  3. Test with the people doing the work. Include exceptions, sensitive records and cross-team handoffs.
  4. Review before expanding. Use completion data and feedback to decide what to improve and which service to add.

See implementation planning.

ESM questions

Do we need to move every department at once?

No. A phased scope can start with one service or team. Agree the conditions for expansion before adding more workflows.

Does a shared portal mean everyone sees every record?

Access should fit the roles and information involved. Validate permissions and restricted workflows during testing; a shared entry point does not remove confidentiality requirements.
